Ary Jaff has been selected as the Scottish Conservative & Unionist candidate for the Garscadden/Scotstounhill by-election on Thursday 6th October. This by-election was brought about following the untimely death of Councillor John Kelly.
Ary grew up in Scotstounhill, went to Knightswood Secondary School and graduated from Glasgow University in 2012 having gained a degree in Biomolecular Sciences. He currently works in the financial services sector. Ary is Kurdish and was born in Baghdad before emigrating to Scotland. Ary became a British citizen in 2010 and is proud to now be a Glaswegian.
Ary said, “I am delighted to be contesting a by-election in the area where I live. This contest is for the City Council, so it’s about who is best placed to stand up for you and campaign for good quality public services. I can speak with passion and conviction on local issues and feel I have the necessary skills to represent local people on the council.”
“A good local councillor is important in a community, dealing not just with the big issues like education and housing, but also the smaller issues which affect our lives, such as pot-holes, litter, dog-fouling and graffiti. We need to elect a reliable person who can make a real difference.”
Glasgow Conservative MSP, Adam Tomkins said, “As a local resident in Scotstoun, I want to see someone of real ability elected to represent local residents. I am convinced that Ary Jaff would make an excellent Councillor and I hope that you will consider voting for him on 6th October with your “1” preference vote.”
